Beautiful day to take a walk out on the sand to check out the conditions for our bay walks for 2021

Today Guide Michael was joined by some of his Mashalls to explore the Marsh and sand from Kents bank and to look at the finishing options for the end of the walk.

Michael's words were - ' we are good to go from this side '

Let's hope when we get out on Tuesday with the tractor the conditions are just as great.

We are hosting our very own Guide Over Sands Walk - Which will raise funds direct for the trust, which will take place on Saturday 22nd May 2021 for more information contact - guideoversands@gmail.com

Followed by 14 Bay Walks over 14 dates with great charities

So far we have calculated 6,995 walkers / runners in total! - Amazing

We must stress that no one can turn up on the day to walk, all walkers are to be registered prior to each walk as part of the governments track and trace.

Important update from the Guide Over Sands Trust:

So that we can all remain safe during our bay walk please see our changes to our bay walk briefings.

Michael will not be wearing a mask and will explain the walk in brief using a megaphone, we ask all walkers to wear a mouth and nose covering during this time, and to pay attention.

Social Distancing is necessary and you are required to stay in your bubble before , during and after the walk.

Mouth & Nose coverings can be removed once the walk has begun.

Did you know...?
A guide to the sands of Morecambe Bay used to be known as a 'carter'. One traveler, Edward Baines, wrote this description in 1828:
'The Carter seems a cheerful and pleasant fellow. He wore a rough great-coat and a pair of jack-boots, and was mounted on a good horse, which appeared to have been up to the ribs in water. When we came to him he recommended us to wait till the arrival of the coach, which was nearly a mile distant, as the tide would then be gone further out.'

As we are an outdoor event with no perimeter we get the green light from the 17th May 2021.

We shall be having a meeting shortly to discuss our COVID19 prevention measures for the walks over the next week.
